Travel Information
Road

St Andrews is 50 miles (80 km) north of Edinburgh via the Forth Bridge to junction 5 on the M90, then A92 through Glenrothes and Cupar and A91. St Andrews is 15 miles south of Dundee via the Tay Bridge A92, A919 and A91. Glasgow is 80-90 miles away via either M8 to the Forth Bridge or by A80 and M876 to the Kincardine Bridge and then by A977, M90 and A91.

Air

Edinburgh airport is the nearest airport to St Andrews and is about 1-1.5 hours drive away. It has connections with various cities in North America. The taxi fare from the airport to Haymarket railway station is about 15 pounds and there is a regular bus service from the airport to Haymarket and Waverley railway stations. From these stations there are approximately hourly trains to Leuchars (rail fare approximately 13-16 pounds one way excluding railcard/prebook discounts).

Glasgow Airport has direct flights to the USA and Canada and is 2-3 hours drive away, although there are regular coaches which go via Glenrothes or trains (from Queen Street Station) that go via either Edinburgh or Dundee.

Please note that London Airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, etc) are a 1.5 hour flight to/from Edinburgh or a 7-8 hour train journey to Leuchars.

Rail

The nearest station to St Andrews is Leuchars, which is about 5 miles away on the line between Edinburgh and Dundee. From there take any of the nos 94/95/96 buses to St Andrews, this will cost about 1.50-2.00 pounds for a single. Alternatively, a taxi fare from the station to St Andrews is about 12 pounds.

Coach

There are regular coaches run by Fife Scottish to and from Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

  • Nos 96 and 99 go to and from Dundee
  • Nos X59 and X60 go to and from Edinburgh
  • No X24 goes between Glasgow and Glenrothes and no X59 goes to and from Glenrothes and St Andrews
