Research
I am currently halfway through my 2nd year of my PhD and have been working with Dr Parnell, mainly on the evolution of flux in the quiet-Sun.
   High Resolution MDI data

  Fulldisk MDI Data
Recently I've been looking at identifying flux emergence on fulldisk magnetograms. I have 2 sets of fulldisk MDI data taken from SOHO. The first data set is from the 21 Dec 2006 and contains active region remnants. The second set is all quiet Sun and is from the 29 Dec 2006.
Here are a few gifs which show possible emergences/bipoles in the 29 Dec data:

About Me
I'm from a small town between Falkirk and Stirling

, called Denny. I went to high school at Denny High before coming to University of St-Andrews. I graduated with an Mphys in Theoretical Physics and Maths in 2006 and began my PhD with the Solar Group at St-Andrews in sept 2006.

Outside of uni I like reading (anything I can get my hands on) and playing rugby (I'm a fullback and captain of the local team!) I also like socialising and you'll often find me down the pub with a few other PhD students.
