9:30 Welcome and Introduction

We'll start with some general `context' overviews and discussions, to focus on important questions to be addressed during the workshop.

9:40 - 10:40 General Opening Discussion Sessions:
9:40 The Quiet Sun Zoo! - led by Richard Harrison
  • Discussion of current (lack of) understanding of the quiet Sun.
  • Including agreeing the meaning of various quiet Sun terms, e.g.,
    • How thick is the magnetic carpet?
    • Does the term blinker only refer to events in the TR?
    • Are microflares only coronal events?
  • Create list of what events, etc., make up the QS.
10:10 Relation between Magnetic Carpet and all the Quiet Sun Events - led by Alan Title
  • Discussion on the relation between the magnetic concentrations in the photosphere and QS events
  • Can models of connectivity in the magnetic carpet explain all the quiet Sun transient events?
10:40-11:10 COFFEE
11:10 - 12:30 Discussion Sessions:

The following discussions should relate more specifically to the the particular data sets identified for study during this workshop.

11:10 Physical Properties of QS Phenomena I - led by Helen Mason
12:30-14:00 LUNCH
14:00 - 16:00 Discussion Sessions:

  • How can we identify small scale phenomena?
  • Limitations/Advantages of automated detection algorithms?
14:30 Physical Properties of QS Phenomena II - led by Gerry Doyle
16:00-16:30 TEA
16:30-17:30 Discussion Sessions:
16:30 Theoretical/Physical Models - led by Alphonse Sterling
  • What do theoreticians need from the observations?
  • What can realistically be provided?
  • What do the observers need the theoreticians to provide?
  • What can they realistically do?
